Dear Gossips,

Daniel Craig is getting very strong reviews for his performance in Luca Guadagnino’s Queer after its premiere in Venice last night. Queer has been acquired by A24, we know they can run a successful Oscar campaign, so Daniel seems to be in good position to contend for a Best Actor nomination.

As we hoped for, Daniel was accompanied by Rachel Weisz on the red carpet. As we know, mom and dad are the sexiest. And I would like to declare here, officially, that I think this hair is hot on him.

Rachel is wearing Atelier Versace. Daniel is in custom Loewe, because just as it was with Luca’s other film Challengers, released earlier this year, Jonathan Anderson was the costume designer on Queer. And just as it was with Challengers, it would seem as though the costumes in Queer will become a talking point – the clothes have come up in two reviews I’ve read so far. Alison Willmore writes at Vulture that:

“Slim in his fitted shirts and pleated pants, flawless as a model, and magically untouched by the heat that gets to everyone else, Eugene [played by Drew Starkey] glides through William’s [Daniel’s character] favorite bar and into his heart, though the nature of his sexuality is left as unclear as his interest in the man who becomes his dogged though never explicit suitor.”

And here’s David Rooney for The Hollywood Reporter:

“The actor [referring to Drew Starkey] quietly sizzles in the high-waisted trousers and knit shirts of the time; Eugene wears his preppy wardrobe with a natural panache about which he seems oblivious.”

But this is the review that made me LOL:

Clothing is character and story! I was always jacked to see this film but now, now I want to see it even more to appreciate how Jonathan Anderson gets it. Here’s what Luca had to say about Jonathan’s work:

Jonathan was also in Venice this week with Team Queer along with one of his most reliable muses, Taylor Russell. She too is a Luca Guadagnino alumna and a jury member this year. She attended last night’s premiere, wearing custom Loewe and, well, not surprisingly, this is just perfect.

Taylor was seen riding a bike with an ice cream cone after the screening. Maybe it was a photo shoot but I want to believe that this is just how she rolls.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
