Jacob Elordi has grown out a full beard and what the beard is trying to say is that he’s a serious actor, please don’t just think of him as a tall, handsome man, because what you’re missing is that he is a Serious Actor who wants to make Serious Movies and no actor ever has done what he’s doing here with the facial hair, he’s not a cliché at all. It’s the season of gift guides – question for another day: has Gwyneth Paltrow ruined gift guides? I don’t look at too many gift guides but one suggestion in the FUG Guide made me laugh. It’s the Diet Coke thing. Because I have so many people in my life addicted to Diet Coke and I suspect that’s true for other people too if they’re making art about it. (Go Fug Yourself)
Oxford has named its word of the year, technically two words but it means one thing: the “supposed deterioration of a person’s mental or intellectual state” primarily due to the internet. Or, these days, TikTok. That’s why people don’t fact-check and they barely read. Which is ironic, the fact that this is the word of the year because the people it’s happening to won’t know about it. You know what I’ll never get tired of? Wedding drama. Like when the couple makes outrageous demands either of their wedding party or their wedding guests. Apparently the “Rise of the Random Destination Wedding” is upon us and with it are the crazy ass requests. (The Cut)
Big news in K-drama casting. For the uninitiated, IU is basically the Taylor Swift+Ariana Grande+Lady Gaga from Korea in that she’s probably the most popular solo artist and an acclaimed actor. Also, obviously, she’s very, very pretty. Byeon Woo Seok broke out earlier this year in Lovely Runner which makes him kinda like Jacob Elordi but way less annoying and pretentious about his career. And it’s just been announced that they’ll be starring in a rom-com about a prince and an heiress. Now, ordinarily, I’d be all over this sh-t because, well, the story sets up exactly to my rom-com tastes. But I’m worried that this pairing is almost TOO good. Rom-com magic comes when the chemistry is unexpected, when it’s two people you couldn’t picture together before and you end up not being able to picture them apart. This pair isn’t giving that. Look at them. They were born to be together, LOL. (Soompi)
