I believe this is what we call ‘synergy’.
I guess it’s possible that it was unconscious that the beaded balaclava-wimple and golden halo-hat directly echo her veil and halo on the album cover. But as we’re being shown over and over, for years and especially this spring, nothing Janelle does is an accident. This entire look courtesy of Marc Jacobs was carefully planned and executed so that even if you didn’t overtly know these were echoing each other (or nerdy enough to google them like me), you get that recognition-familiar feeling while still appreciating how she does something new Every. Damn. Time.
She’s also the only one who came anywhere near to a true homage to nuns or religious orders, which to me is a really underrepresented aspect here. Lainey described someone else as The Sound Of Music, but with no disrespect to Fraulein Maria, this is what really encapsulates sister chic.
