The Office star Jenna Fischer is talking about her breast cancer diagnosis, hoping sharing her cancer journey will help others walking their own path, and also remind women to get regular mammograms and screenings. One of my aunts was just declared in remission earlier this summer, it is SO important to get regularly screened. I had my first mammogram last year, my second is next month. It’s super not fun, but Jenna is reminding me not to find an excuse to cancel the appointment. (Celebitchy)

Halloween beef! Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (and our hearts), name-checked Ariana Grande when asked about celebrity encounters—someone in the crowd prompted her by calling out Ari’s name—and she recounted a story in which she did a favor for Ariana Grande, then asked Ariana for a photo, after taking photos with all of Ari’s friends and family, only for Ari to tell her “I don’t really do that”. So, Ariana fully expected Elvira to do it, but she, her Glinda-self, is too good for it?
Ari tried to nip this in the bud by claiming a bad mental health day and saying she left before the rest of her group, but I don’t buy it. Because what Elvira said was, I took photos with her people, asked her for one of us together, and she was snotty about it. What Elvira DIDN’T say was, I took photos with her people, but Ariana had left because she wasn’t feeling well.
Icing on cake: Ariana suggests that Elvira bringing this up has somehow pissed off Ari’s mom, but don’t worry, Ari will smooth it all over. Anyway, Team Elvira. (Pajiba)
Remember that story about people gaming restaurant reservation apps and creating a mess for normal people just trying to have a nice night out? Well, here’s a sort of follow-up about restaurants doing reservations the old-fashioned way, with telephones and notebooks. I maintain that just calling and asking if they have a table is the best way to go, even in the year of our lady 2024. And if a restaurant IS “online only” for reservations, then it will be full of tech and/or finance bros and I don’t know about you, but I try really hard not to spend my precious outside time around tech and/or finance bros. Also, the people taking phone reservations probably do have a system for keeping track of regulars, and you will get better service. (Eater)
I will literally never get tired of information about the Salem witch trials, it was such a deeply unhinged moment in American history. Professor Bridget Marshall examines the history of dogs in the witch trials, which includes everything from being included as evidence of the devil at work in Salem, to being named as witches’ familiars, to maybe being killed as part of the hysteria. Always and forever: we don’t deserve dogs. (The Conversation)
