Zendaya and Rob are not The Drama
Zendaya and Robert Pattinson will appear in three films together this year: The Drama, The Odyssey, and Dune 3. The Drama opens on April 3 and they’ve just done their first interview together to promote the film, covering the new issue of Interview.
The accompanying photo shoot for the story is demented, and I love it. Because it suits both of them – Zendaya is a fashion star, the greatest of her generation, and one of the reasons for it is because she loves to play, to take risks. She’s not always concerned with looking pretty. Rob too enjoys serving a weird look, so this editorial is where they intersect.
It also works for the film because this, as promised, is not a straight-forward romance. Zendaya and Rob play an engaged couple who are happily planning their wedding until she reveals the “worst” thing about herself. They’ve been pretty upfront about this in the marketing so far but, you know, there inevitably will still be someone crying about it later on TikTok bitching about being misled when they come out of the movie.
Just this past weekend, Emerald Fennel’s “Wuthering Heights” won the box office – so the extravagant press tour paid off. Zendaya and Rob, in their interview, talk about press tours and promotion and while neither one particularly enjoys it, they see the value in the exercise to support the work of the entire team, cast and crew. You know what the difference will be, though, when it’s time for them to really make a push for our attention?
As many online have already pointed out, unlike Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, Z and RP won’t be trying to affair-bait the audience. They have so many mutuals, it would be ridiculous but also, it’s beneath them. Nobody was really buying it from Margot and Jacob anyway and I wonder if that’ll be the end to this trend until Sydney Sweeney tries it again.
What else happened today…
Jennifer Garner is talking about “competency porn”. Here at LaineyGossip we call it Show Your Work. (Celebitchy)
Isabelle Huppert never misses, not in white and not in black. (Go Fug Yourself)
President Barack Obama was all over the news this weekend. He was courtside and the coolest at NBA All-Star Weekend. And he made headlines for answering questions about aliens. He then had to teach people, again, about reading and listening comprehension. The person who is the biggest threat to any comprehension is probably big mad about President Obama getting all this attention. (Pajiba)
If you’re still in the mood for love… In The Mood For Love is one of the greatest slow burn films in the history of cinema. Happy Lunar New Year to Hong Kong icons, Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung! (The Mary Sue)
Is anyone being normal about Hudson Williams posting his girlfriend on main? Don’t answer that. I take it back. I un-ask the question. (The Cut)
