Jennifer Lawrence and Dakota Johnson were papped in New York last night and, as you can see, they’re currently matching hairstyles. This is the way Dakota consistently styles her hair – fringe and layers, and it really does work for her; some people just look better with a bang, her face is much better suited to a bang. Jennifer, on the other hand, has gone back and forth between bangs over the years and can make both work. She’s currently in a bang groove, with her hair, like Dakota’s, layered around the face. 

 

JLaw and Dakota were recently both in Cannes where JLaw made her case for award season this year in Lynne Ramsay’s highly anticipated Die, My Love, emerging as an early frontrunner for Best Actress. The film was acquired by Mubi for theatrical release in multiple territories but they’ve not yet announced exactly when. If Mubi follows the schedule that they set for The Substance, though, which resulted in five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Director, and Actress, Die, My Love could make the rounds at the fall festivals, including TIFF, and then go wide later in September or October. 

 

Which would mean that Dakota will be at the cineplex first. Very soon, in fact. Materialists opens on June 13. Celine Song’s follow-up to Past Lives (I am still not over how GREAT it is) started screening for media last week and first reactions were solid. 

I am ready for this movie. I’ve been ready for months. I am ready for Celine Song to deliver the love triangle of the summer. I am ready for social media to pop off for weeks over this rom-com. 

 

As for JLaw and Dakota’s friendship? This is not new, they’ve hung out in the past and they share a past and a present boyfriend. It’s been ten years since Jennifer and Chris Martin broke up. And I remember that she also made a joke about his big dick – did I imagine this?! Dakota and Chris have been together since 2017 and, of course, JLaw is now married with two children. The ex is not a problem in this case.
