Jennifer Lopez is in the middle of the Second Act press tour. As Lainey has reminded you repeatedly, it comes out on December 21st and it’s a rom-com about work so naturally, we stan.
Jennifer Lopez in a rom-com is my favourite Jennifer Lopez. JLo on a press tour also always delivers. She’s a great interview and her style and beauty game is infuriatingly on point. This white winter fur ensemble? It’s STUPID how good she looks. This look was for a taping of Watch What Happens Live. She also did Fallon, Ellen, and all the other major outlets. She’s pushing Second Act hard, as she should. She showed up to Good Morning America with her mom in a sparkly jumpsuit I want for my friend’s New Year’s Eve wedding. It’s a GREAT look but my favourite may be grey pinstriped suit she wore for press at NBC. Seriously, how is this woman aging backwards?
I could go on about JLo’s fashion but aside from turning sidewalks into catwalks, she’s also doing interviews on this press tour. The one she gave to USA Today is making the most headlines because she addresses whether or not she’s going to marry Alex Rodriguez.
“Everyone wants a fairy tale. They all want a romantic comedy, a happy ending. We all do… But it’s not a movie, even if you see us on Instagram or on the shows. We’re happy. We’re taking it day-by-day. And it’s great… 2018 has really moved us to place where we feel like a real family. That's nice. And it's good enough right now."
This is a very mature and logical response from a woman we know LOVES love and marriage. She loves the fairy tale but who says the fairy tale can’t be a loving relationship with a blended family without the ring and the ceremony? You could say that JLo is on her own “second act” (or fourth but who’s counting?) with ARod.
In a new interview with PEOPLE, she talks about how well their kids get along and it’s all very heartwarming and adorable. The photo of ARod looking up adoringly at JLo while she’s slaying on a table is making me feel things. It’s making me feel like I believe in their fairy tale, which may or may not end in a wedding. Of course, it is going to get there. This is Jennifer Lopez we’re talking about. But for now, it sounds like she’s happy being partners and parents with ARod. I’m not going to ignore the “right now” she put after “good enough” in that USA today quote though. Not being married is “good enough” for JLo in 2018, but what about 2019?
For now, she’s got a movie to promote. The moral of Second Act (I hope) is that the love story of a woman’s life can be with her work. Maybe that’s the headspace JLo is in right now. She’s got a different fairy tale to act out and this happy ending is way more interesting.
