It was announced on Monday that they’ve pushed up the release of season three of The Bear by just a few hours. All ten episodes will drop tonight at 9pm ET/6pm PT and for those of us in Canada, it’s Disney+. It’s also a long weekend in Canada – so are you doing all of it tonight or will you watch it over the weekend?
This is currently my argument with Jacek because he’s one of those one episode a day people and I’m a binger. My advantage, however, is that I’ve already seen the first two episodes because I was supposed to do the junket until I got sick and had to stay home (don’t talk to me, I am not OK about this) so I’m ahead of him and he needs to catch up. His rebuttal is invoking Sarah’s opinion about The Bear and how stressful it is and that you can’t mainline it all at once because it’s not good for your brain.
Well this is me telling you that the first two episodes of season three are actually not stressful. It’s almost like Christopher Storer, the showrunner, is building us up to whatever madness that will inevitably arrive in the following eight episodes. And that’s all I’ll say until… when? Next week? Will we have all finished it by next week?
For now, the premiere. It happened last night in LA and I’m a little bit amused that Ayo Edebiri and Jeremy Allen White look like they coordinated their outfits because, as we know, word on the street is that IRL they are not just friends after they were seen at a baseball game together in Chicago looking closer than just friends. As for what’s happening on-screen, both Ayo and Jeremy emphatically answered at a press conference on Monday that there are no romantic plans for Sydney and Carmy and, frankly, I’m not sure why people are asking for this?! Their relationship is so much more interesting as colleagues – because they’re partners now, and considering how they started, with Sydney admiring Carmy from afar, basically idolising him, but then working alongside him, and at the end of last season working WITHOUT him, we don’t need romance here to make it interesting. In fact, romance would make it less interesting!
You know what is interesting though? Sarah Ramos was at the premiere last night. You’ll recall, she played Jessica in season two, the episode (“Forks”) where Richie stages. Season two of The Bear was operating on a high level, every episode was f-cking gold, but “Fishes” and “Forks” are the two that stand out. “Fishes” of course is the Christmas episode, the most exhausting hour of television ever. But many consider “Forks” to be the true masterpiece of the series. “Forks” may have been what won Ebon Moss Bachrach his Emmy (even though, technically, the Academy wasn’t supposed to be voting on season two at the time) and seeing Sarah Ramos on that carpet suggests that Jessica, who is sexy AF at her job, is coming back in some form.
One final note on Ayo’s dress for the premiere – it’s Loewe and the floral cousin (ha!) to the one she wore at the Met Gala. I was disappointed in the Met Gala look but this one, worn strapless and loose, with a bubble skirt that’s bustled in the front, is wonderful, I love it on her.
