There used to be a generally accepted rule that popstars stopped being relevant past their 30s – and interestingly enough it’s the pop girlies who are challenging that with Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift reaching career highs well past their 20s and showing no signs of slowing down. Not sure we can say the same about the men in pop though.
On the acting side, it's true there too as women approached their 40s until recently with actresses creating more and more value even as they age. I’m thinking of Angela Bassett and Nicole Kidman and Viola Davis and Michelle Yeoh. And this is where we find Jessica Biel. Her most interesting work has been since she turned 35, playing more complicated women in television series like The Sinner and Candy. And she’s now currently promoting another one – The Better Sister, co-starring Elizabeth Banks.
It's been a minute since we’ve seen Jessica Biel on promo, here she is in New York, alongside Elizabeth, kicking off the press tour for the show. She looks great in this dark denim set with her hair in the trendiest style of the season: the cunty bob.
She also covers the new issue of InStyle and in the cover story acknowledges that during the early part of her career, she didn’t have much opportunity to showcase her range, especially not in movies, pointing to the prestige TV projects that have allowed her to stretch her abilities. So it’s kinda funny that her next movie, Matchbox, yes based on the toy, represents for her a return to the kind of acting she was doing over a decade ago when she was in her 20s. Matchbox is hoping to live in the legacy that Barbie may have built. The movie is expected to be one of the tentpoles of summer 2026.
So Jessica Biel who has been famous for a long time but not necessarily for her work may be the architect of a career rise in her 40s since she produced several of the television series that have characterised this phase of her career, including The Better Sister. And…if we’re considering her as one half of a famous couple, she might be becoming the more notable one. I’m sure he feels great about that.
