Jessica Chastain stars in a new production of Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House which opened last night on Broadway. The play, modernized and minimalized by playwright Amy Herzog and director Jamie Lloyd, was originally supposed to open in London’s West End in 2020, so you as know, that didn’t happen. So it’s now a Broadway show, starring Chastain as housewife Nora, and Succession’s Arian Moayed as her husband, Torvald (we love to see Stewy thriving). The reviews are mostly positive, so Chastain had a lot to smile about as she did the photocall for opening night yesterday. I like how her dress with its doily collar sort of looks like something a haunted Victorian doll would wear. Appropriate for the occasion.
Despite opening her Broadway show, Chastain will still be at the Oscars this weekend, as is traditional for the reigning acting winners. She’s also now the reigning SAG winner for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series, though I feel like no one saw George & Tammy and there was lowkey surprise when she won, like everyone forgot she starred in a prestige drama series with Michael Shannon. It’s another victim of Too Much TV, no one can keep up with all this stuff.
