JLo breaks her own style cycle
When I think of Jennifer Lopez’s s style it’s shimmery – lots of metallics. She is all about the glow. When I think of her street style it’s denim, big sunglasses, wedges and a cream top.
Her latest all-black look is unusual for a couple of reasons: one, she rarely wears head-to-toe black and two, she is in flats. It’s a very mindful, very demure outfit so it tracks that this is Dior. There’s something prim about it. Maybe she’s dressing for mood or maybe the all-black is a way to blend in but ironically, this has made me pay more attention to her outfit because when have we ever seen JLo in ballet flats? And it’s not a Dior deal because she is carrying a quilted Chanel bag, another item I don’t think I’ve seen her with. She’s partial to a ludicrously capacious monogram Dior bag.
I have a request for the exact sweater and it is here – obviously very expensive, it’s Dior. The closest dupes I found are this mock-neck sweater with a bow from Simons and this button-down from ba.sh.
Not Dior but also not $2600.
Here she is in the summer in another Dior look.
Katie Holmes’s great coat
I wrote about this last week but I would love a Katie Holmes profile, particularly one that centers around clothes. This woman single-handedly ushered in the boyfriend jean by pretending her cuffed pants belonged to Tom Cruise (this was sartorial gaslighting). Her cashmere bra capitulated Khaite to the next level of influencer fashion. People are interested in what she wears, particularly her everyday clothes like this coat.
This coat caught the attention of a reader and I get it. Great coat. I already have a coat problem so I’m way too interested in this. And it’s a splurge but it’s also an investment because I found photos of her in this coat going back to 2017. This coat is older than COVID. This coat is in elementary school!
OK enough of my justifications, it’s the A.P.C. Lilli (on a side note, I love A.P.C. and want more of it) and I found one on sale here.
Lori Harvey: the barn jacket but BETTER
Barn jacket this, barn jacket that – I’m feeling BULLIED by this trend. These coats are everywhere but I find them quite square and stiff. I feel like Frankenstein when I put one on.
But I do like them on other people and I get the appeal of a utilitarian fall coat and they are pretty stylish (this Toteme version could really change my mind because I’m fickle with no principles). It really hits the spot when it’s still too warm for a full-on winter puffer coat but you don’t want to wear one of those oversized cream cardigans that Mormon influencers pull out to do their little TikTok dances.
Anyway, here’s Lori Harvey in a suede barn jacket by Staude. Buttery, statement shoulders and a creamy brown – it’s as fall as Meg Ryan carrying a pumpkin.
