Are you caught up yet on Killing Eve? As Duana wrote in her post following the Emmy nominations, we have a few weeks to do our homework, so that we can be informed on Emmy night when we’re yelling at the TV about who got robbed. Sandra Oh is the heart and soul of Killing Eve – and Jodie Comer is the blood. They are both nominated for Best Drama Actress and the show is contending for Outstanding Drama Series although, sometimes, Killing Eve is a comedy, non? It’s a delicate balance of drama and dark humour and you can’t do that without skill. Both Sandra and Jodie have SKILLS. But you can’t showcase those skills without the skill of the creator – that would be Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who’s repping both Killing Eve and Fleabag at the Emmys.
Phoebe is currently working on the new Bond movie. She’s also planning the next season of Killing Eve and said a few weeks ago that she might show up, but for one purpose:
“I was like, I am going to write myself a part so that I can be murdered by Jodie.”
Yep, I get it. At this point it’s an honour. You know how it’s an honour to be invited to play a storm trooper in a Star Wars movie or, when Game of Thrones was in production, all kinds of celebrities were hoping to be wights or random bannermen on the battlefield? If you’re a fan of Killing Eve, it’s the same with Villanelle’s victims. I’d f-cking want to be one of her victims. That’s what’s amazing about this character – she is unscrupulous, ruthless, but at the same time, strangely endearing, irresistibly cute, and also… really good at her job. Which is why it would be awesome to be a part of her doing her job. Will Villanelle kill her creator?
Here’s Jodie, on another job right now, out in Boston today. She’s there working on Free Guy, a new comedy costarring Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi. It’s about video game characters. Her character is called “Molotov Girl” so, basically, she’s here to f-ck more sh-t up. I’m in. I’d also be in if Taika wants to work with her again and sets her up in one of his next projects because she’s just that compelling.
