FKA twigs and Julia Fox, this friendship started at least a year ago and I hope it continues, I hope we get more of it, because of how wildly unconventional these two women are in their expression, in all forms – artistic, personal, professional, style, everything.
Twigs is readying a new album, EUSEXUA, expected to be released before the end of the year and a follow-up to her previous album, CAPRISONGS, which dropped in 2022. I love CAPRISONGS, I had it on repeat through the winter that year and it was the perfect blend of sexy and melancholy, fun and bitter at the same time. Word is EUSEXUA will have a techno/dance vibe.
Before that, though, there’s a movie, the remake of The Crow, which is coming out this Friday and I feel like there hasn’t been all that much buzz? Zoë Kravitz’s Blink Twice is also opening this Friday and that’s generated more heat; Sarah’s Blink Twice review is coming in the next couple of days, I’m curious to see what she has to say about The Crow too and how the film will perform given its history and legacy.
As for Julia…
Her outfit is… not what we’re used to seeing from Julia, right? But that’s the thing about Julia Fox, she’s never going to be just one thing. And right now, with her look, it’s more nun mode than provocateur. She too has a film to promote soon and she could be on her way to TIFF as she’s part of the cast of Steven Soderbergh’s Presence. Presence screened at Sundance back in January to mostly strong reviews; it’s a ghost story, told through the perspective of the ghost, and was supposedly so intense that some audience members couldn’t handle the stress and walked out. I am freaking out about this because I think this is one of my assignments?! How many times have I said that I do not f-ck with horror/spirits/etc and so far my first two assignments that I’m screening in the next week are scary ass movies…
I’m counting on the fact that watching Lucy Liu, the lead actor in the film, and Julia Fox will be worth it. Will keep you posted. I’m counting on Julia to come to TIFF and become a moment. I want so badly to see her in person. And if I actually get to talk to her? Festival made.
