Kylie Jenner is a headline right now because the United States Surgeon General, Jerome Adams, just asked for her help, and the help of other influencers, in getting across to younger Americans how vital it is to practise social distancing right now. He was on Good Morning America today and said that:
“We need to get Kylie Jenner and social media influencers out there, in helping folks understand that look, this is serious, this is absolutely serious. People are dying. Dr Adams added that with his own kids, “the more I tell them not to do something, the more they want to do it”. And the problem with this is that, “We are seeing new data from Italy that suggests that young people may be at higher risk than what we previously thought.”

And, as we all should already know by now, even if younger people have a better chance at recovery, or are asymptomatic, there are at-risk groups all over the place who are very vulnerable, to say nothing of the strain that increased infections will put on the healthcare system. His warning is especially timely because, well, I’m sure you’ve seen the footage coming out of Florida and all the people on the beach for spring break?! This the demographic that, in theory, would be paying attention to the likes of Kylie Jenner, who is actually social distancing.
So is that the answer? Can influencers get young people to stay the f-ck home and of the beach? I don’t know. Spring break life for many people is regular day-to-day celebrity life. That’s the illusion, isn’t it? I wonder then if the people who are out there on the beach are like, f-ck you, celebrities, your social distancing is basically the life I want to be living anyway.
Anyway, Justin Bieber has been encouraging his followers to SD and he and Hailey are SD-ing in Canada.
A source tells PEOPLE that the Biebers “plan on staying in Canada until it’s safe for everyone to resume their regular lives”, adding that “they plan on socially distancing themselves. In Canada, their home is very secluded and they are able to be out in nature still”.
OK but we might be looking at months of this. Hopefully, if we can all observe the recommendations to stay away from people as much as possible, it could be shorter, but right now, no one can agree on how long (or short) it’ll be in North America. Canada has restricted non-essential travel to the United States. I don’t know if that applies to people on private planes, which is how the Biebers roll, but I’m guessing… same? So the Biebers are staying in Canada, at their secluded home, for the foreseeable future? Or are they? How long will they be able to stay away from LA and/or New York? From their friends and other loved ones in America? And from other celebrities and the celebrity circle, celebrity central?
Justin’s tour is supposed to kick off in Seattle on May 14. While several tours have been postponed and/or cancelled through March and April because of Covid-19, JB’s hasn’t officially been delayed…yet. Realistically, though, considering that you have to factor in at least a few week of rehearsal, and rehearsals should be underway by now, it’s unlikely that the show will proceed as planned on schedule. Not when the American Centers for Disease Control recommended no public gatherings of more than 50 people for at least eight weeks. I imagine all kinds of announcements will be coming soon. Unless… we all grit it out, stay home, stay apart, and contain the spread and flatten the curve!
