Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson attended the premiere of Bruno: The Gracious Visionary, a film about Bruno Cucinelli, last night in New York.

And it definitely looks like a date night… even though they actually arrived separately and then ended up together on the red carpet.

They were also apparently seated together during the dinner …

…so I’m sure you can imagine how some parts of the internet are reacting to this. Or maybe you’re one of those people reacting to it – as in, is it possible that after all these years, Joey and Pacey could be together IRL?

It’s a conversation we’ve been having since last summer, when it was announced that Katie and Josh would be working together on a film she also wrote and directed, Happy Hours, playing a couple who dated in their youth and reunite in adulthood. This, obviously, matches up with the fan fiction that Dawson’s Creek fans have been holding on all these years.

Katie and Josh are fully aware of it, and given they energy they were putting out last night, it doesn’t seem like they’re interested in shutting it down. I’m not here to splash cold water on anyone and, certainly, Katie and Josh falling in love in their 40s is good for gossip, but there’s also a film to consider. Right now no release date has been announced for Happy Hours. In a situation like this, a comparatively smaller feature, any opportunity they can find to show that there might be an audience, to convince the money people and those financing distribution, they have to take it.

And also it’s one thing for someone on Twitter and TikTok to be freaking out that Katie and Josh went on a date, but does that translate to a ticket sold? As a filmmaker, this is part of Katie’s job when she’s not on set – to advance her belief that there’s an audience for this story and the people who are telling it. And last night on the red carpet might have been a way to say, look, this is what our press tour would look like and this is how people are already reacting. Let’s keep indulging the fantasy.
