Dear Gossips,

The big event in Hollywood last night was the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny which opens on June 30. Sarah will have more about the movie closer to release. For now let’s just talk about who showed up, or specifically one person who showed up who’s not in the movie but of course is part of the Indy legacy: Ke Huy Quan aka Short Round. It’s a good way to start the day.

Last year during his Oscar run with the Everything Everywhere All At Once campaign, our hearts burst when Harrison Ford and Ke reunited at D23. It was cosmic beauty when Harrison presented the Best Picture Oscar to EEAAO back in March and Ke reacted like this:

And now we add another chapter to the story. Ke surprised Harrison on the carpet last night. As usual, he can’t contain his excitement.

This is one of the few people in the business who can just throw himself at Harrison Ford, who isn’t exactly the warm and fuzzy type, and not only not get spurned but be embraced in return. Harrison looks delighted and now we’re all delighted. That is the effect of Ke Huy Quan. There is much that divides but I think we can all agree on this: we all need more Ke Huy Quan.

The good news is we are getting more Ke Huy Quan. American Born Chinese is currently streaming on Disney+ (which I haven’t started yet because I’ve been saving it for when I have a few days off next month) and Loki season two drops in October. I’m actually looking forward to seeing the dynamic between Owen Wilson and Ke on that press tour – what will be the energy between those two?! I’m not saying it’ll be the same as Ke and Harrison, I’m just wondering about how Owen’s laconic “wow” will match up with Ke’s infectious enthusiasm and earnestness. I’d love if they were paired up for the junket… if there is one. Who knows by then what the status of the strike(s) will be.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
