The Matrix Resurrections opens this week, so it’s time for one last Keanu before he goes away again. Here he is at the US premiere of Resurrections, held at The Castro in San Francisco. I appreciate a movie premiere that has the stones to occur somewhere other than New York or LA. I also appreciate that Keanu has been wearing this same suit, or one almost identical to it—I suspect he’s mixing and matching two suits on the road—for his whole press tour. By now we know Keanu’s familiar uniform of black blazer, tee shirt, and black pants, but he actually broke out a suit this time around—and then proceeded to repeat it for two solid weeks. What’s the opposite of a fashionista? That’s Keanu. And we love him for it.
Also turning up are Carrie-Anne Moss, writer/director Lana Wachowski—so weird seeing her without Lilly, but I saw Lilly a few weeks ago and also thought it was weird to see her without Lana—Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in a leather trench, and Jada Pinkett Smith (in Giambattista Valli) and Jaden Smith. Everyone is dressing like they think the future is, except for Keanu, who is timeless, and Jada, who is dressing for the holidays in 2021. The Matrix made me think the future was going to have way more buckles and leather than it does. I wonder what fashion statements Resurrections will make? Will they double down on the buckles? Or have we given up on a future in which everyone gets super into harnesses?
