About a year ago around this time, Keanu Reeves was beginning publicity for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. The movie opened on May 17, 2019, went on to make over $56 million on opening weekend and ended up grossing over $325 million worldwide on a $75 million budget. But that was just the beginning of what would become referred to as “Keanaissance” of 2019 because from there, Keanu stole the show in Ali Wong’s Always Be My Maybe, then gave all the gamers boners and took their breath away at E3, killed it again in Toy Story 4, and began filming the new Bill & Ted movie, which is supposed to come out in August. Hopefully it will still be coming in August. Because we need Keanu Reeves very badly. Bill & Ted really do need to save the world with a song right now.
But that’s just his professional life. In 2019, in his personal life, we confirmed that Keanu and Alexandra Grant are in love – and I say “we” because it’s not like they issued a press release or anything (as IF); they were just living their lives, which they’ve been happily living for years now, and we just didn’t notice. Last year was the year we paid attention. And even his romance made him look good, not that that was ever his intention (as IF).
Prior to the lockdown, Keanu had been working on The Matrix 4. Filming was to begin in Berlin right when travel restrictions were to be put in place so the studio halted production and now it’s not known, like so many other projects, when they can resume and if they can make their release date, May 21, 2021.
For now, then, Keanu’s just riding his bike around town to relax. Needless to say, he and Alexandra are likely in isolation together. For some reason, the thought of them writing poetry together and/or painting during the pandemic doesn’t make me want to roll my eyes.
