On Friday afternoon at Comic-Con, Keanu Reeves stepped into Hall H for a panel about his comic book, BRZRKR, which has a pending live-action adaptation and anime spin-off in the works. Footage from those projects does not exist yet, though, so Reeves surprised the trailer-happy crowd with a teaser for John Wick: Chapter 4, because that’s the kind of giving person Keanu Reeves is. (Also, John Wick director Chad Stahelski was on Collider’s “Directors on Directing” panel that evening, so it kinda-sorta tied into that, too.) The teaser shows John Wick engaging in some bloody training, intercut with everyone up to and including bow-and-arrow Hawkeye assassins trying to kill him. “No one,” a voice intones, “not even you, can kill everyone.” Is that really a bet anyone wants to take? Like, who is giving odds against John Wick at this point?

The teaser shows off new characters played by Hiroyuki Sanada—who starred with Reeves in the huge flop 47 Ronin—Shamier Anderson, Donnie Yen, Rina Sawayama, and Bill Skarsgard, as well as returning favorites Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, and Lance Reddick. I love that Lance Reddick’s entire character in this story is just “disapproving looks”. He is the MOST tired person in the John Wick universe. Also, watching a worldwide jetsetting effort to kill John Wick really drives home how much bigger these movies have gotten over the years. Remember when it was just John trying to find Theon Greyjoy in the greater New York metroplex? Now look at all this chaos and destruction on every continent! Just like in Westeros, this is all Theon’s fault. If only he hadn’t killed John Wick’s dog, all of these people would still be alive.
