I know. I’m sorry. I couldn’t resist! It’s Friday!

Ok so here’s Keith Urban on the carpet and on stage at the CMAs last night. He is such a smarmy cheese on the carpet. Up on stage though, without the shirt buttoned down to his man-trail, and not worrying about his hair, I can see the sex appeal, sure. Why the disconnect between the two?

Being the country neophyte, this is what I learned watching the Country Music Awards:

Keith Urban wants to be Blake Shelton.

Oh I get it now.

And thus American Idol.

From the limited exposure I’ve had to Blake Shelton though, one of the keys here, I think, is accessibility. He and Miranda Lambert both seem...willing to reveal, and honestly, genuinely, even if it might look ugly underneath. (Obviously I have been completely possessed by these two and by the weekend I hope to be over it...but still.) There doesn’t seem to be any clenching happening at the Lambert-Sheltons. And... well...

Keith Urban is married to one of the most famously controlled actresses in the business.

I’d care more if he could actually let go...

But I don’t know if that’s part of their overall game plan, you know?
