I need to talk about Kendall Jenner’s Met Gala look first because… I .Am. Obsessed. And I never expected to be because Kendall doesn’t usually get me hard but this, for me, was one of the best interpretations of the theme while still keeping it individual, true to who she is how she prefers to dress.
Kendall is wearing Marc Jacobs. Yes, it’s basically a bodysuit – and some of you might be like, it’s just a f-cking bodysuit…but is it? It’s a sequined bodysuit with an embellished collar but the key detail here is in the sleeves.
Those long sleeves that create a cape effect on either side of her but look closely at the lining. It’s a quilted lining. An exquisitely quilted lining that evokes the signature quilt of a Chanel bag. That was the feature that put me over, that made me not just a believer in this look but a worshipper. And then the boots just brought me to my knees in full (temporary) devotion. On this day, and maybe only this day, we’ll have to see, Kendall is my favourite Kardashian-Jenner.
She is not anyone’s favourite K-J right now because of her relationship with Bad Bunny. I am not here to tell you they belong together. But I am here to argue that their outfits belong together. Because she killed it and he killed it too. In Jacquemus suit which… I mean it’s just so f-cking good. And such a great tribute to Karl Lagerfeld.
KL loved monochrome and Chanel is all about tweed and this is both all white and tweed, with an open back and a back chain and one of KL’s photographs was printed on the jacket – and if all that wasn’t enough, there’s the shawl that becomes a floral train, and I wasn’t sure how he was going to do it better than he did it last year but here we are, Benito delivered. They both delivered, together but apart…though not for long.
