Lily Gladstone was one of the best parts of the award season that just was. It was the way she met the moment with grace and generosity, how she carried her responsibility with respect but also with joy. And of course her fashion!
Now that she’s wrapped up her promotional run with Killers of the Flower Moon through the winter, Lily is spending spring doing press for another project: Under the Bridge, premiering tomorrow on Hulu and on May 8 on Disney+ in Canada. And I’m guessing Canadians especially will have some interest in this show because the real-life murder on which it’s based happened on Vancouver Island. Reena Virk was just 14 years old when she was killed after being harassed and bullied by a group of teenagers. Sarah will have more thoughts on Under the Bridge soon as she is currently screening the series. I’m here to talk about Lily at the premiere last night.
During award season, Lily consistently repped Indigenous designers and brands – from her accessories to the garments, every outfit was thoughtfully considered so that she could, using her platform, highlight Indigenous design. And by now I think it’s obvious that she will do this every time she steps out. What she’s wearing here is a STUNNING coat by Himikalas Pamela Baker of Squamish/Kwakiutl/Tlingit/Haida. Which means that Lily has chosen to wear the work of a Indigenous designer specifically from British Columbia where the story takes place. Another example of how thoughtful she is with what she’s choosing to wear and when.
But also? It’s stylish AF. This is an exquisite piece, a showstopper, from the high collar to the layering on the lapel and the puff shoulders.
And then the back of it!
One of the most exquisite looks of the year so far – and she alone gave us so many of them! Possibly, probably more to come? Under the Bridge is already making the Emmy consideration rounds. We could be seeing a lot of Lily through Emmy season this summer.
