Technically, it’s the Natural History Museum Gala in New York, but Lorne Michaels is usually there, and so is an SNL-heavy crowd. This year was no different, with Lorne Michaels, Colin Jost, and Scarlett Johansson showing up with basically the entire cast of SNL in tow, plus veteran SNL guest stars like Alec Baldwin y su esposa, Hilaria. Every year I have the same question about this event—does Lorne MAKE them go?

There were some non-SNL stars there, though, most notably Paul Mescal and Steve Martin, accompanied by John McEnroe. And, well, I guess ScarJo, but she’s SNL adjacent now.

I assume Paul Mescal is there because he’s hosting SNL this weekend:

Point in favor of Lorne making everyone go to this event. But MAYBE Paul is there in hopes of experiencing a Night at the Museum scenario? I have gone to museum galas because you get to visit a cool museum with reduced crowds and free food, aka the best way to visit a museum. But I have also gone harboring hopes that the exhibits will come to life, and I’ll find myself in a Night at the Museum scenario. Did this thought cross Paul Mescal’s mind? These are the questions people should be asking celebrities. Yeah yeah yeah, it was super hot while filming Gladiator II in Morocco, now, tell me, did you go to the dress up museum party hoping the skeletons would come to life? Celebrities would be SO much more fun if they got to answer questions like this!
