I really enjoyed where Lupita Nyong’o was seated last night at the SAGs. Right in front. Sort of like where Oprah was sitting at the Golden Globes. Like so many other attendees, Lupita was in sparkles. Grey in some light but with a metallic blue tone on the carpet. I would like this dress a lot more if not for that layer of black sheerness covering it and then sweeping and floating around her towards the bottom. Seemed unnecessary and I wonder what it would look like without?
Lupita, along with Brie Larson, presented the final award of the night. Typically at these shows, they reserve the biggest names for the night’s biggest award. Both Lupita and Brie are Oscar winners. They aren’t however at, like, “legends of Hollywood who come out at the end” level yet. Think back to all the Oscars you’ve watched. Last year it was Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty. Jack Nicholson’s done it before. Denzel Washington too, I think. But these are different times.
Lupita has been one of the most outspoken advocates for change and diversity in Hollywood. Brie Larson, you’ll recall, last year at both the Golden Globes and the Oscars, after presenting to Casey Affleck, was not having it. And in the time since, she hasn’t walked that reaction back. An excellent decision then to pair them together. Also, Brie’s dress is Gucci and it might be the best award show dress she’s ever worn. So much better than the Gucci she wore when she won her Oscar. Exquisite.
