This is such a Maggie Gyllenhaal dress, isn’t it?
It’s a little old school. It’s glamourous, but slightly unconventional too.
Maggie was nominated yesterday for a Golden Globe for her work in The Deuce. I’m looking forward to seeing her on the carpet. I used to always be excited about Maggie on a red carpet. She was best dressed for me in 2009 at the Golden Globes. Over the last couple of years or so though, I don’t know, I don’t think there’s been much that has excited me.
This silver dress doesn’t excite me. I think it’s because of the fit. It fits weird between the breasts and the waist. And it’s folding weird right around the ribs, like the material doesn’t know how to sit properly. Probably it’s just the way it’s photographing. Some dresses, some fabrics, don’t shoot as well as they wear. I wish more stylists would insist on proper photographing for the big shows and the big carpets. You’d think that would be elementary by now?
