I HAD TO. I couldn’t stop myself. And you’ve just groaned. And I don’t blame you. But… it was too corny not to!
We’re about a week away from the Emmy Award nominations. The Handmaid’s Tale is expected to be a major contender in several categories. Did you watch? Last I checked, Sarah hadn’t started yet. There’s too much real-life sh-t going on right now. And she wasn’t ready to get in on the feels-too-real-life sh-t that The Handmaid’s Tale serves in every single episode.
Already people are speculating about what happens next. If you know the book, at this point, they could go so many places. Because the book takes place during Early Gilead. And what we learn from Offred is only discovered later. There are certainly parts of the book that the show has still left unexplored but, obviously, the next is what we’re all thinking about. Alexis Bledel is coming back. In the Colonies? Are you curious about Rita? Rita went right to the bathtub. Rita has a story too, non? There’s so much story to come. Will some of that story include… Drake?
Margaret Atwood was interviewed by Junot Diaz recently. It’s a thoughtful conversation, as expected, and Duana will love it because Toronto (where the show is shot) gets a lot of love during their discussion. Of course whenever Toronto comes up, Drake isn’t too far behind. So this is what happened when Junot asked Margaret if she knows Drake:
JD: So, have you met Drake?
MA: I haven’t met Drake, but I have of course met people who have met Drake. But you have to realize how o-l-d I am. I’m not likely to go to the same parties. Or many parties at all, to be frank.
JD: I understand. I just think that, Canada—I’ll say this to the whole nation—you are missing a great opportunity to put these two folks together. Have you listened to his music? Do you have any opinions?
MA: Wouldn’t it be fun for him to have a cameo in season two of The Handmaid’s Tale?
First of all, I need this to happen, for someone to host a party where both Margaret Atwood and Drake show up. Second…
It WOULD be fun for Drake to have a cameo in season two. Drake came home this past weekend for Canada 150 for a surprise appearance at Toronto City Hall on Saturday. Because OF COURSE he would come home for Canada 150. So, now that the show has narratively come to Toronto, why shouldn’t Drake show up on the show in Toronto? Or, wait, would Drake be a Commander? I can’t see Drake as a Commander. Can you?
