When Mimi and James Packer broke up, she wanted $50 million from him. They reportedly ended up reaching a settlement which included her keeping the massive engagement ring he gave her. Supposedly the ring was worth US$10 million. Afterwards it was valued at much less. And she’s just sold it for $2 million, according to Richard Johnson at Page Six:
“Mariah has been very vocal recently about her choice to move forward in her life surrounded by positivity,” her publicist told me. “That requires leaving emotional and material baggage behind, including an old engagement ring from an ex-boyfriend.”
A source said Carey had one of her business managers quietly sell the ring for $2.1 million to a Los Angeles jeweler.
“A confidentiality agreement was signed, but the jeweler is currently selling it, and there’s only one such ring,” my source said. “Mariah Carey’s public relations people are desperately trying to keep the story from the press, and have threatened the jeweler with litigation if he discloses her name.”
Selling something and leaving something behind aren’t exactly the same thing. But, whatever, she’s getting hers. I mean, sure, $2 million is a lot less than $10 million even though we now know it wasn’t worth $10 million to begin with and it’s not like she spent any of her own money on it so she’s still up in the game – by $2 million. Mimi doesn’t need the money, necessarily, OBVIOUSLY, but Mimi also loves more money. The Butterfly has expenses!
So now we wait. We wait to see how she spends it. Because at some point, we’re going to get another tour of her apartment/closet/bathroom. And when that happens, Mimi will casually point to something, either on her body or hanging on the wall, or she’ll be driving around in it or flying around in it, and she’ll tell us that this is what she bought …with the money she earned…from being engaged to an Australian billionaire.
