Matt & Ben together again

I mean, it’s not that they were ever apart, but we don’t see them together a lot these days. We see Matt Damon with Chris Hemsworth, often. A Matt and Ben Affleck sighting, however, has become more rare. The Matt + Ben thing, though, well it’s still a thing. This is all kinds of Gossip Nostalgia. They’re one of the OG Hollywood BFFs of the modern era. They’re what people exaggerated George Clooney and Brad Pitt to be (those two were never as tight as it was sold).

Matt and Ben, from Boston, were there last night when the Red Sox won Game 5 of the World Series against the Dodgers. As you can see, they were both pretty emotional about it. Which I’m sure only endears them more to their own home town supporters. Sports loyalty carries such a powerful magic, not only for the actual sports participants but also for those with whom sports loyalty is shared. I don’t care if he’s an asshole! He scores goals/points/touchdowns! He’s a Leafs/Habs fan! That’s all that matters! Here in Canada, the hockey team allegiances are hardcore.

As you can see, Matt and Ben were joined by Jimmy Kimmel and Matt and Jimmy wore custom t-shirts playing off the long-running joke they’ve kept up about hating each other. The joke may be old and tired but I do find it interesting that we’ve been seeing Matt over the years with other male friends, other than Ben – the aforementioned Chris Hemsworth, John Krasinski too, and George Clooney and Matt are actually probably closer, legitimately closer, than George and Brad Pitt. Ben, on the other hand, what is his friendship circle outside of Matt? Is there one? For support? For fellowship? For encouragement? I hope so. But that question may be one of the keys to understand Ben and what he’s been through.
