Dear Gossips,
Guess who just showed up out of the blue, no warning, and sent the internet into panic last night? Who else? The Queen, of course. Megan Thee Stallion dropped the remix for her song “Savage” yesterday, which has been going viral on TikTok, and it features THREE verses from Beyoncé. And it’s not like Beyoncé ever half-asses anything. So, obviously, her verses are fire.
And, obviously, the song is soaring up the charts.
Proceeds from the “Savage” remix will go to Bread of Life, a Houston based organisation serving the homeless community. Of course both Beyoncé and Megan are from Houston. And Houston is mentioned several times in the track.
This is the first time Beyoncé and Megan have collaborated. Megan gave us Hot Girl Summer last year. As she said, this summer she’s back, with Beyoncé, and they’re taking over:
There’s another interesting angle coming out of this: as Craig Jenkins points out in his piece for Vulture about the “Savage” remix, typically a song needs “nightlife to boost play counts” – it gets played at the club, and becomes more and more popular the more and more people get down to it. That’s not an option anymore so… TikTok has, in a way, become the new “club”. That’s what was happening with “Savage” even before the Queen’s contribution and now that she’s on it, it’s only going to get even bigger. So get ready. Because you’re not going to be able to escape these six words:
“Classy, bougie, ratchet, yeah
Sassy, moody, nasty, yeah”
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
