Dear Gossips,

Megan Thee Stallion shared the trailer for her upcoming documentary, Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words, yesterday; the doc premieres on Prime Video on October 31. This is, as promised, Megan taking viewers through her struggle, her pain, her disappointment, but also her triumph. We know it’s been a rough ride for Meg the last few years – she rose to fame just as she experienced two monumental losses in her life. And just as she was coping with both her success and her grief, well, I think we all know what happened next.

Megan has talked about how it’s affected her mental health, the work she had to do to find her way back to joy, but she hasn’t shown us. In the documentary, she is showing us.

What I really like about this is that Meg is a documentary stamped with her signature interests. We know how much she loves animé, so it feels true to her that part of her story is being told through animation, in particular when she’s recalling her childhood moments. It’s also a clever way to make up for a lack of footage from that time if that is indeed the case, although it doesn’t have to be – as I just mentioned, Meg has always had an affinity for animé and really leaned into it on her latest album with the songs “Otaku Girl” and “Mamushi” so this feels like a natural extension of how she’s been expressing herself. In this sense, then, the documentary is not only a memoir of her experience but also a creative outlet in and of itself.

“I be going through sh-t but I be getting through sh-t” Megan says towards the end of the preview. God I felt that. And I’m sure it resonated with many of you too. So I will be seated on October 31 to learn more about Megan “in her words”.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
