Dear Gossips,

Several times last year I wrote about how it’s become impossible to separate gossip from politics and, in particular, politics from the tabloids. Last summer, The New Yorker published a piece by Jeffrey Toobin about how Donald Trump has benefitted from the National Enquirer’s support. (Harvey Weinstein too.) Last week, Ronan Farrow, reported in The New Yorker on how the Enquirer allegedly helped Trump conceal his infidelities with cash payments for exclusive rights and promising coverage to those who claim to have had affairs to him.

Here is the cover of the latest issue of the National Enquirer, featuring Meghan Markle and Matt Lauer. Supposedly, when she was on The Today Show, they ended up disappearing into a dressing room, presumably to f-ck. This follows recent speculation that Meghan and Prince Harry will not invite Donald Trump to their wedding in May.

Coincidence or conspiracy?

I’ll give them points for creativity though. I would never have thought to conjure up a story about Meghan Markle and Matt Lauer.

The other tabloids and magazines, not surprisingly, are focused on another story this week. That would be Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux’s separation. We’ll get to that later today.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
