Michael B Jordan’s quiet year

September 29, 2017 18:02:42 by Lainey

Michael B Jordan, or as Kathleen likes to call him – Michael Bae Jordan – stepped out for dinner last night in LA. Kathleen can’t come to the phone right now. Because she’s producing all FOUR segments on The Social today: Sasheer Zamata, Kelly Clarkson, Jay Pharoah, and W Kamau Bell. Which she insisted on doing. Because Kathleen always shows her work.

Since she’s busy though, I get to write about her boyfriend MBJ. MBJ’s had a pretty quiet 2017. Not because it’s been slow but just because most of his projects are scheduled for next year. That’s actually a great plan for him. Because there is only one movie that people care about in 2018. One movie. If you have opinions about another movie, save them. Nobody is listening. One movie. That movie is …

Black Panther.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, MBJ’s work brother. Starring Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, King of Wakanda. And MBJ plays Erik Killmonger, the villain. Sarah, our resident super-nerd, has been waiting for this movie her entire life. Kathleen, our resident crier, will somehow find a way to cry during this entire movie. All of us want to see this movie, somehow, together. We are trying to convince Sarah to come to Toronto for it. And maybe hold hands through the whole thing. Sarah loves Black Panther so much she just might agree to it.

In addition to Black Panther though, MBJ also has Fahrenheit 451, currently in production, for HBO Films, costarring Michael Shannon. He plays “Montag”, a young fireman who “forsakes his world, battles his mentor Beatty (Michael Shannon) and struggles to regain his humanity”. I’m in.

And, of course, at some point next year, they’ll start shooting Creed II. Sylvester Stallone keeps hinting that Ivan Drago will have something to do with Creed II. Drago, of course, was featured in Rocky IV, my personal favourite of all the Rockys and maybe one of my favourite moves of all time. That’s the one where Rocky defeats communism. “If I can change and you can change, everybody can change!”

I’m pretty sure even Drago changed at the end of that movie. I would know. I’ve seen it close to a hundred times. That’s why Brigitte Nielson was mad at him – not only for losing but because he was starting to believe Rocky’s motivational speech, WHO WOULDN’T!

Rocky saved democracy!

Anyway, there are rumours that Creed II would be about Adonis Creed fighting Drago’s kid. This is a stupid idea and I have a hard time believing that Ryan Coogler would be down with it.
