Here are some photos I wanted to post yesterday that I never got around to. But they make me cry. With happiness. Like, the minute I came across this set of pictures, my morning got better. It’s Michael Shannon and he was in New York at AOL Live, presumably promoting 12 Strong, also starring Chris Hemsworth and Michael Pena. As you can see, some fans asked Michael Shannon to take selfies.

Are you enjoying Michael Shannon’s selfie face?

How about those Michael Shannon selfie eyes?

This is also funny, of course, because of what we know of Michael Shannon. He is one of the most respected actors in the business. He is a very serious actor. But, at the same time, he’s also deeply off-beat. Please see Sarah’s review of Michael Shannon’s Christmas Bigfoot Movie if you, for some reason, I don’t know what that would be, need an explanation for why I just described Michael Shannon as deeply off-beat.

But he’s not just off-beat, and not just for the sake of being off-beat. It’s just one of many qualities that make Michael Shannon so …Michael Shannon. He’s also known to be very sensitive, an artist who has always supported other artists, and a generous performer. Which is why he’s so popular, not in that annoying douchebag Justin Timberlake kind of way but in the Sam Rockwell kind of way, to pick an industry equivalent. Sam Rockwell’s signature quirk is his dancing (he pretty much danced through his hosting duties on Saturday Night Live last weekend) so what’s Michael Shannon’s signature quirk? Is it the expression he has on in these selfies? Can Michael Shannon please host Saturday Night Live
