Dear Gossips,
Miss Tina announced yesterday that she’s launching her own Facebook talk show, Talks with Mama Tina. And the celebrity guest list is impressive: Zendaya, Kelly Rowland, Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish, Ciara, Chloe and Halle Bailey, Pauletta Washington and John David Washington, Marsai Martin, and Storm Reid.
Miss Tina’s show does not feature a red table. There is a table though – but it’s for eating, as her guests will enjoy her famous gumbo over conversation. Here’s the trailer:
Up to this point, Miss Tina has been known in the culture as, well, Miss Tina, the mother of Solange and Beyoncé. In rebranding herself as Mama Tina, in a way it’s like she’s now the mother of the culture. She’s opening up the doors to her home, she’s feeding people, heart-to-heart conversations on the couch, perhaps a few corny jokes, which is her signature, and probably sending them home with leftovers, all set to a soundtrack by Beyoncé, Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir.
Over the last couple of years, Jada Pinkett-Smith’s Red Table Talk has become Facebook’s most high-profile and successful long-form talk series, now an official destination on the celebrity promotional tour, attracting some of the biggest names in the business. The online talk space is now expanding with Mama Tina’s show, not unlike the way conventional television offers multiple talk options from daytime to late night across networks. One of the biggest talk shows of the last two decades will be coming to an end in a few months – Ellen DeGeneres has been steadily losing viewers over the last couple of years and that’s a big target. Every series in the talk format wants to attract those millions. And Mama Tina is coming for them now too.
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
