It was no surprise that Nicole Kidman, Ayo Edebiri, and Greta Lee walked the runway at Vogue World Hollywood last night at Paramount Studios. All three cover the current issue of American Vogue released in anticipation of the event. And all three are freshly confirmed major fashion house ambassadors – Nicole and Ayo are now with Chanel, and Greta was Jonathan Anderson’s first celebrity selection after taking over both men and womenswear at Dior.

It was Nicole, a slamdunk movie star, who opened the show, directed by Baz Luhrmann, with whom she often collaborates. And she didn’t just walk the runway, she also sang – a tribute to Rita Hayworth, “Put the Blame on Mame” from Gilda.

LOL forever at Keith Urban who picked the worst timing to break out of his marriage, just as his estranged wife is on a conveniently scheduled non-stop slay tour in the wake of their separation.

Nicole’s dress, by Matthieu Blazy for Chanel, was inspired by the dress Rita is wearing during her performance in the film. But, also, if we’re talking about Nicole singing, then the other movie reference is Baz’s Moulin Rouge. Satine lives!

Um, sort of. The actual Satine costume immediately followed Nicole’s appearance, modelled by Kendall Jenner. Nicole Kidman is a tough act to follow, for anyone, even a so-called supermodel. It’s not that Kendall doesn’t look great in clothes but on the runway, I find her forgettable. Having her step into an outfit that is an icon of cinema was, in my opinion, pretty flat. She’s giving nothing!

Back to Ayo and Greta – they are actors, of course, and not models. But all the more reason to go out and have fun with it. And it looks like they did. I like the flouncy little bop in Ayo’s steps here, from rehearsal to real thing…

And look at Greta, how she cannot contain her excitement about the opportunity. Who can resist this smile!?
