My ma, the Squawking Chicken, lives with a rare disease called POEMS, a blood disorder. She has been treated twice for multiple myeloma: radiation, chemo, stem cell transplants. Our family has seen first-hand the devastating effects of myeloma on the body. POEMS has made it so that ma can no longer walk without braces and rollers. And we are still so fortunate that she was diagnosed in time to access care and treatment in order to slow the progress. This is why I’m putting this event in front of you today – so that, hopefully, we can learn more about this disease and how to help those who are suffering from it.
The Canadian Myeloma Research Group (CRMG) is charitable non-profit national group of researchers who have established a productive pan-Canadian clinical trial network and database to advance science, treatment and access to new treatments for all patients. All of this work is volunteer.
The first CRMG Gala will take place next Friday, October 18, hosted by Rick Mercer featuring The Royal Conservatory of Music, and more. For more information and to buy tickets, please click here. It’s dinner, dancing, fun, and most importantly, support for research and awareness!
