Dear Gossips,
Oprah made a surprise appearance last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live! It was National Voter Registration Day and Oprah was there to encourage Americans to exercise the “privilege and power” of their vote. One week ago today we were talking about Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris immediately following the US presidential debate, resulting in a huge amount of traffic to Vote.org and 52,000 registrations. Officials said that, of course, it’s impossible to directly connect each new registration specifically to Taylor, “her impact on voter engagement is undeniable."
In addition to Oprah, so many celebrities yesterday were using their platforms to encourage voter registration, including Billie Eilish and Finneas who posted this video declaring their support for VP Harris and Governor Tim Walz and urging people to “vote like your life depends on it… because it does”.
Back to Oprah, tomorrow she’s hosting a livestreaming rally, Unite for America 2024, in collaboration with Win With Black Women and over 100 grassroots groups; MVP Harris is expected to make an appearance.
But this wasn’t the only Oprah announcement yesterday. Oprah is an American citizen and an interview queen – and her next major interview is with the grandchild of a king. Oprah’s latest exclusive is with Riley Keough. At Graceland!
Riley is promoting From Here to the Great Unknown, the memoir that Lisa Marie asked her to help her finish before she died. Never-before-seen family photos and home videos will also be shared with Oprah on the special. You will note that Priscilla’s name isn’t mentioned. Riley and Priscilla have resolved their legal issues and did not go after each other publicly through the media but there has been speculation about their relationship and, well, if anyone can go there, it’s Oprah.
Lisa Marie and Riley’s book releases on October 8 and Riley’s going on tour to promote it. So far there are no Canadian dates. How can we change this?
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
