Red seemed to be a popular choice this weekend for several best actress contenders.
Diane Kruger, Jessica Chastain, and Carey Mulligan all wore red, or shades of it, to the Governors Awards on Saturday. Diane won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance in In The Fade. Right now, she’s probably still a longshot for an Oscar nomination but the Hollywood Foreign Press could include her in their nomination list for Golden Globes and, with the right campaign, she could be a dark horse. And Carey’s making a push too for her role in Mudbound.
The two strongest contenders among the women in red are Jessica and Margot Robbie. Molly’s Game will be in limited release at Christmas and I, Tonya is coming out a couple of weeks before then. Margot, in particular, has been surging the last few weeks. She did not wear red to the Governors Awards but she was in red plaid at the Indie Contenders Roundtable yesterday in an outfit that’s giving me all kinds of 90s vibes. A plaid dress over a white t-shirt over boots or chucks, weren’t we all doing that?!
