They are all Oscar winners, and they were all at the Met Gala last night. Viola Davis, Jessica Chastain, Michelle Yeoh, and Nicole Kidman all stepped out, and they all looked amazing.
Viola wore a hot pink be-plumed Valentino, which I like by virtue of being my favorite color. Also, she just looks great. I cannot find an ID on Michelle Yeoh’s gown, but of all the people that nodded at Karl Lagerfeld’s penchant for black and white suits, Michelle’s is one of the best interpretations. It’s a good reference, but it also perfectly suits her, double duty.
Randomly, she posed with Pete Davidson, who wore a bucket hat (by Fendi, but STILL). Can we not bring that particular Y2K trend back?
Jessica Chastain wore black Gucci with sheer gloves, another nod to Karl’s well-known sartorial preferences. She also donned large black sunglasses on the red carpet, and white-blonde hair, and like Michelle Yeoh, she managed to strike the right balance between a look that is incredible on her, but also is on-theme for the night.
She looked amazing and is on my best dressed list for sure. She would probably be fighting with Anne Hathaway for the top spot were it not for…
NICOLE KIDMAN WORE THE DRESS.
Before the Met Gala even began, I texted Lainey and Cody and called dibs on anyone who wore “anything that references Nicole Kidman’s pink feather dress from that Chanel No. 5 commercial”. And then Nicole HERSELF showed up IN THE DRESS. In case you don’t remember nearly 20-year-old commercials, here it is:
That was the first garment I remember wanting to know everything about. How it was constructed, what it was made of (250 feathers, over 3,000 crystals and sequins, four meter train), how it MOVED like that. I never forgot that dress, and the moment the Met Gala theme was announced, I wondered if someone would reference it, but I never thought Nicole Kidman herself would pull it out.
The only thing I don’t like about her Met Gala styling are her shoes—she needed something lighter, less of an eye-pull from the dress itself. Otherwise, she looks amazing, that dress is amazing, I am SO glad we got to see it out on a carpet. As far as I am concerned, this is what the Met Gala is for, glamorous people wearing glamorous couture and highlighting some of the best designs ever made in fashion.
