Mimi at the Oscars?

I missed her at the Grammys, didn’t you? There was altogether too much accomplished walking. Just didn’t feel right. But Mimi had no “official” business at the Grammys. Mimi DOES however have official business at the Oscars.

Precious has 5 nominations in the major categories including Lead and Supporting acting nods for Gabby Sidibe and Mo’Nique, Lee Daniels for Best Picture, and of course Best Picture. Let me put it to you this way:

Mariah Carey is featured in an Oscar nominated film. Mariah Carey could be featured in an Oscar WINNING film. To borrow from Stephenie Meyer’s extensively limited vocabulary: are you staggered? Are you staggering?

Other observations:

Clearly the Academy HATED A Single Man. Only Colin Firth is representing the film, seems to be trailing in momentum now behind the leader Jeff Bridges and George Clooney, was left off the list of 10, and totally overlooked in the Adapted Screenplay category for which it was predicted to have the best chance. Another example of No Gays Welcome?

But I worry about my favourite film. Every year there’s a film that gets listed many times, and every year it comes out the big loser. Like Benjamin Button. It could be this way for Up in the Air. On popularity and momentum, Up in the Air has been coming up short.

While this morning’s festivities will most certainly be analysed to death, and Harvey Weinstein’s Nine is now a goldplated bomb, there are some solid picks. Unless Meryl Streep campaigns her tits off, Sandra Bullock has it nailed down. If she keeps playing the game, Mo’Nique is a sure bet too. But how about, finally, a woman named Best Director? GO BIGELOW.

This is the tightest race in a long time. The game is wide open. So it’s exciting. There’s actually some mystery. Mystery and Mimi, can’t wait.
