Dear Gossips,

After several delays due to the Los Angeles wildfires, the Oscar nominations are scheduled to be announced on Thursday morning. Even before the fires broke out, this has been an exceptionally unpredictable award season with momentum shifts all over the place and now, with the fires, there’s been an impact not only on the nomination period but also how many voters could actually participate in the nominations considering so may Academy members have been affected by the situation.

As for the races, well, it’s all across the board and not just in the Best Actress category which we’ve been referring to all season as the most competitive. For example, the LA Times just released their nomination prediction list and their Best Actor nominations include Daniel Craig for his performance in Queer but they don’t sound all that confident in his spot and have left room for Sebastian Stan in The Apprentice. This is where Variety is leaning on their prediction list – Daniel out, Stan in.

And these one or two spot swings show up in every acting category as most experts are agreeing on three maybe four locked in nominations but calling for surprises in the nominees to round out the categories. Like in the Best Supporting Actress category, after Zoe Saldaña and Ariana Grande who are the two leading contenders, it’s a toss-up between Isabella Rossellini, Monica Barbaro, Felicity Jones, Danielle Deadwyler, and Jamie Lee Curtis. Speaking of JLC, though, she’s taking the campaign into her own hands with two recent posts on Instagram without copy editing, LOL. Note the spelling on the word “actress”… TWICE!

Interestingly Jamie Lee was on Vulture’s list of the “Five Oscar Nominations We’re Most Afraid Of”, one of the reasons being that it’s possible that she might get nominated and not the lead in the film, Pamela Anderson.

Because, again, that Best Actress race…

Cynthia Erivo, Karla Sofia Gascon, and Demi Moore are looking like solid bets for nominations at this point. Those two final spots, though, are between Pam, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, and Fernanda Torres, with Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie now falling behind and probably out of it.

That’s just three examples of categories that are difficult to predict and we haven’t even talked about the big one, Best Picture as people are wondering whether or not frontrunners The Brutalist and Emilia Pérez will be hurt by this A.I. controversy. I doubt it but Brady Corbet is doing damage control just in case.

Sarah will have full coverage of the Oscar nominations on Thursday.
