Back when Mad Men was a factor at award shows and its cast regularly appearing on all the award show carpets, January Jones would be one we would consistently wait for. And she was consistently one of the best dressed – at the Emmys, at the Globes, at the SAGs, January could reliably be counted on to bring it. And then Mad Men ended and, well, the quality of the looks wasn’t the same.
January has a role in Ryan Murphy’s The Politician and was at the premiere last night. SO GOOD! Her best look in a long time. This is Rodarte and it brings out the best of her style abilities – I like the edge that we’re seeing her, the peplum, which is always polarising, which makes it that much more interesting, the shape of the pants, especially tucked into the boots.
That said, I do wish there was a better fit above the waist. The top seems a little big and because it’s a little big, it looks casual compared to the pants, almost as though the two weren’t meant to go together. Even where the blouse is falling on her shoulders feels like it’s from an entirely different outfit. And still, overall, I like what’s happening here, I like what the designers are trying with this combination and I love that January was down to try. Wonder what this means going forward and whether or not we’ll see her serving more looks like this, especially since she has another project coming out soon and she’s the co-lead – Spinning Out, a series about figure skating! She plays the rink mom, OMG. They were shooting through the summer and Netflix hasn’t announced a premiere date but, I’m telling you right now, this is going to be an obsession. Lots more January to come.
