Gabrielle Union is with Dwyane Wade this week in New York as he promotes The Redeem Team which premieres on Netflix today. Totally watching it this weekend. It’s about the US Olympic basketball team in 2008 trying to win gold again after the embarrassment of the 2004 Games when they only came home with a bronze. I know I don’t have to explain to you why the Americans coming in third in basketball, with all their NBA players, was a total fail. In 2008 they had to redeem themselves – Kobe, LeBron, Dwyane, Melo, they were all on the team, but they had to become a team. This is the documentary about that effort. It’s also from the people who gave us The Last Dance so there’s a level of quality here that should be familiar to those of us (and there were A LOT of us, not just basketball and Michael Jordan fans) who watched that series. Trailer is below.

As usual, when the Wades step out, they come to serve. Look at this incredible grey leather jacket on Dwyane. You know he’s feeling it.

That was yesterday and later in the evening he and Gabrielle stepped out, both in suits to complement each other. Dwyane is great in a simple black tee under an orange set with a longer jacket. Gabby, too, is in a suit, hers is black, and her jacket is also longer. They’re great on their own but together, it’s a style duet, it’s excellent coordination without feeling like it’s too matchy-matchy.

Gabrielle will soon be doing promotion for her own project, The Inspection. The film opens November 18 and as Joanna posted after the film’s world premiere at TIFF, Gabrielle delivers a standout performance that had some calling for her first Oscar nomination. She’s probably on the long list for Best Supporting Actress consideration but right now, it's also looking like a wide open race in that category, especially now that Michelle Williams has decided to submit in the Best Actress category; if Michelle had stayed in Supporting, she’d be the frontrunner for sure. The fact that she’s running in the lead actress category leaves a lot of room for other contenders, and that includes Gabrielle.

Over in London last night it was the premiere of Noah Baumbach’s White Noise which was hyped for Oscar contention but that buzz has since fizzled. White Noise went to Venice and was mostly warmly received but it was overshadowed by other films that premiered there (including all the drama around Don’t Worry Darling), and then TIFF happened and many of the releases there pushed it way out of the chat.

The season is long, though, and there’s still time for White Noise to rebound and no one is working harder for the film to attract attention than Jodie Turner-Smith and her stylist Wayman + Micah …OMG. As we have seen, over the last two months, since Venice, JTS has blitzed the red carpet with style bomb after style bomb after style bomb. This time she’s in Balmain, and she is – as usual – UNREAL. Which is a nonsensible combination, the words “usual” and “unreal” because how can something this unreal be so usual?! But these looks are so good, it’s stupid at this point.

What Wayman + Micah have done this year with both Jodie and Tessa Thompson has been exhilarating. Between the two of them they’ve been their own Met Gala.

Also at the White Noise premiere – Greta Gerwig in a purple caped dress, one of the best outfits I’ve ever seen on her, and it’s a tricky material, too.

Greta went two for two as she showed up at a luncheon today in a voluminous pink dress that is also excellent on her. The luncheon, by the way, was hosted by the Oscar Academy… so make no mistake, this was a campaign event as White Noise tries to get back into the race.
