Dear Gossips,
Coming to you from the nuked remains of Toronto after what can only be described as total annihilation last night – even though the city has no business at the Super Bowl. We’ll get to the halftime show later…
Let’s stay in Canada, just on the opposite coast, Vancouver, where the Invictus Games are taking place with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in attendance. They were at the Canucks Game on Saturday, Harry did the puck drop.
After that it was dinner with Vancouver native Michael Bublé and his wife Luisana Lopilato at Vij’s, probably the most well-known Indian restaurant in the country.
Earlier in the day though, both Harry and Meghan of course were at the Invictus Opening Ceremony where Harry was seen asking Meghan for a kiss before he left the stands to take the stage for his remarks.

You can see his full speech here but at one point he quotes Toni Morrison – a message of resilience for the athletes in the arena…and beyond.

The ceremony was inclusive and representative, fiery and passionate but not unkind, Harry encouraged community and not division, acceptance over suspicion, understanding instead of blame. This is where Harry is at his most constant: his enduring respect and admiration for those who have sacrificed in service; his unflagging support for those in service – because service is, truly, his purpose.
I wrote about this in my most recent essay at our Substack, The Squawk last week. It’s a piece called Meghan & Harry: Influence & Service, reflecting on their individual strengths as they look ahead to the next five years, and the potential of the reset that’s before them, how the momentum of the Invictus Games might determine the course of their immediate future as Meghan approaches the release of With Love, Meghan on Netflix and the other projects they’ve been working on.
Here they are at wheelchair basketball yesterday. Seated next to Harry is Omar Sachedina, Head Anchor of CTV National News.

They visited a number of events yesterday, Meghan looks really good in that Hermès puffer here at wheelchair curling. It’s a classic.

She’s also been posting a lot to IG stories – probably the most she’s used stories since she came back to Instagram, all of it to do with Invictus, of course. It’ll be so interesting to see what her social media strategy will be like going forward, after the Games, and as she gets closer and closer to promotion for the show.
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
