Dear Gossips,

Beyoncé wrapped up the first leg of the COWBOY CARTER tour in Los Angeles on Friday night and will next be heading to Chicago. The tour has been called her best yet – and considering the standard she has set for herself, that is the highest bar. Since my algorithm is all Beyoncé all the time, I saw a video on TikTok the other day about something I’ve been thinking about for nearly ten years. It started back in 2015 following a performance of Hamilton when Lin-Manuel shared the following four tweets about when Jonathan Groff met Beyoncé.

If Jonathan himself had spoken about it since, I missed it. But he did it in person recently on the Table Manners podcast and, well, if it were me it would be the only story I ever told forever and ever. And Jonathan probably has told it a lot in private, but I appreciate the care and reverence he puts in here – but then again, it was the greatest moment of his life, of course he’s going to call it a religious experience.

A true fan too because he wasn’t just flexing here, he is very specifically calling to Beyoncé’s talent and her attention to detail:

This week for our NYC series we have the star of stage and screen, Broadway legend - and newly Tony nominated - Jonathan Groff joining us! Fresh from opening night of his brand new - and already 6 time Tony nominated - show Just In Time, Jonathan joined us at The Standard High Line for lunch. We heard all about what it’s like playing the iconic Bobby Darin and how the play came to be. We also talked about Jonathan growing up on a farm in Pennsylvania, figuring out his sexuality, working as a waiter in NYC, audition rejections, Frozen 3, and his deep love of Beyoncé. Just In Time has just opened at the Circle In The Square Theatre in NYC, and you don’t want to miss seeing him shine! #TableManners #JessieWare #LennieWare #JonathanGroff #Broadway #Beyonce #Hamilton #musical #westend #performer #newyork #nyc #usa #tonyawards #frozen

Back to the Queen’s last show in LA though – Prince Harry and Meghan Sussex were in the audience. And Beyoncé posted a photo of them on her website.

Meghan also shared a carousel on Instagram (as all good influencers should!) that includes a shot of Harry kissing her on the cheek and the inside of his hat. That’s very sweet but someone Chinese needs to tell them about green hats.

Speaking of Meghan and Beyoncé, though, the Sussexes showing up on her website is confirmation that while Harry may still be fighting for security services from the British police, they are clearly still under the protection of the Beygency which was first extended in 2019 when Beyoncé accepted her BRIT Award and made it clear who she considers to be royalty.

Beyoncé is on the move now. Her three shows in Chicago precede another five in New Jersey. Will be interesting to see whether or not she changes up the set lists and the circuit on every stop.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
