Back in December, Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Harry had succeeded The Duke of Edinburgh as Captain General Royal Marines and I wrote at the time that it would probably mean that Harry would be in uniform at his wedding, as Prince William was also appointed a new military title before his wedding and he showed up in uniform when he married Kate Middleton.

A couple of weeks ago, however, The Times reported that Harry probably would NOT be uniform because it was considered to be “a bit naff” (like tacky) for “former guards and calvary officers” to get married in uniform, according to military source. And royal expert Alastair Bruce went so far as to say that:

“I'll buy a marzipan hat and send you a picture of me eating it if (Harry) turns out in all the [military] clobber.”

After that article, other royal experts predicted that Harry would marry Meghan in a morning coat and not in uniform.

The thing is, as we’ve seen from Harry and Meghan through their relationship and their engagement, they’ve not exactly followed the script. And many of the old school experts have actually been off when it comes to predicting what Harry and Meghan will or won’t do. Many didn’t think that Meghan would be invited to Royal Christmas at Sandringham. And there she was, on Christmas morning, at Sandringham with all the other royals. Their wedding cake will not be a fruit cake but a lemon elderflower cake. I don’t need to waste any more time here citing all the times they’ve done their own thing. You get the point. The point is that Harry and Meghan are not as predictable as, say, Will and Kate – at least not predictable to the old timey royal experts. They don’t have to be. Maybe, though, they’re exactly as predictable as you think… in a different way.

Kensington Palace announced today that:

Members of the Household Cavalry will form a staircase party at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle as part of the wedding. The State Trumpeters and a Captain’s Escort from the Household Cavalry will also provide ceremonial support. A STAIRCASE PARTY!

At Windsor Castle!

CASTLE!

Calvary!

Ceremony!

So…

Are we sure Harry’s going to be in a morning coat and not uniform when people in uniform are going to be forming a STAIRCASE PARTY in his honour?

With that kind of pomp and pageantry… like… don’t you think Harry’s going to show up in his brand new uniform that his grandmother the Queen just tapped him with?

Is this wedding is going to be more fairytale Disney than an actual Disney wedding?
