Dear Gossips,

So it wasn’t just a Vogue wedding for Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. It was also a PEOPLE and HELLO! wedding, with both of those publications actually getting the first exclusive shots of the wedding photos… just like it was with Amal and George Clooney. Vogue had the exclusive for Amal’s fitting with Oscar de la Renta but since they don’t pay for photos, the Clooneys sold theirs to PEOPLE in the US and HELLO! in other territories. Looks like Priyanka and Nick did the same, although they may have also have been part of the deal that Vogue had with Google Pixel for their digital covers and those videos.

Here they are at their western ceremony, both in Ralph Lauren:

That is a spectacular shot of the veil blowing behind her and a great use of light to showcase the transparency of the dress. Not my favourite dress style but I know I’m in the minority about the sheer thing not being my thing. According to Priyanka, “For the western wedding, we had been talking to a bunch of incredible designers. But ultimately when Ralph Lauren approached us (they're so much a part of our love story for obvious reasons) and I learned that Ralph has only designed three wedding dresses in 50 years - one for his daughter, his daughter in law, and his niece - I was blown. Then when we went in for the sketch presentation, they created exactly what I envisioned for myself on my wedding day... and I said yes to the dress."

The second photo in that carousel is from their Hindu ceremony. Her headpiece! It’s “a 16-carat oval-shaped diamond”! She’s also wearing a Chopard necklace with 184.50-carats of diamonds set in 18k ethical white gold.

All of this feels very old school celebrity publicity…and I’m here for it. Not only because it’s a throwback but also because it’s been a cultural lesson. As Priyanka said, “We took beautiful traditions that we both grew up with and personalized them in a way that made sense for us. It’s been incredible to find the commonalities between our beliefs and figuring out how to blend them in a respectful and meaningful way.”

I mean, of course, don’t get it twisted, they got their money. But in the process, as I say all the time, they’ve also taken advantage of the fact that gossip can enlighten and inform. There are many people who read PEOPLE and HELLO! who will be learning about Indian wedding customs for the first time because of Priyanka and Nick’s story, at a time when embracing other cultures and experiences isn’t always, in some places, welcome or encouraged.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
