Vice President Kamala Harris delivered what she called her “closing argument” last night in Washington, DC, at the Ellipse, to a crowd of 75,000 people. And I’m sure I don’t have to tell you the significance of the location and the impact of the size of an audience. Like imagine how much bigger it might be should the election break her way next week.

The speech was beautifully written, powerfully delivered. But I’m here to talk about… the production value! She stood with the White House illuminated in the background, perfectly centered in front of a row of flags, and the LIGHTING! It was like the softest moonlight but bright enough that it didn’t feel like a DC movie. But not too bright to blow out her face – seriously cinematic! (Celebitchy)

It was announced this week that Johnny Depp has been cast in a new Hollywood production which means, probably, more Hollywood productions will come. So, for me, the only thing worth reading about that story is Kayleigh Donaldson’s ferocious piece about how the powerful, privileged, and predatory will always find ways to come back, as opportunities are offered to them and denied others who are more deserving and way less gross. Natalie Portman is a football fan. Wasn’t super aware of this until the other night when she showed up at the Ballon d’Or as a presenter, which I thought was super random, but now I know that she’s a fan of FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. At one point, while posing for photos with Barca players, she held up four fingers, not because she was showing off her rings, but because they just embarrassed Real Madrid 4-0 last weekend. She looks great in this blue velvet dress and she rarely wears her hair like this so I’m not going to complain but I would have liked to see it in a middle part. (Just Jared)

I posted earlier about Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum’s split and Steve Kazee, who is engaged to Jenna Dewan, decided to enter the chat and “HAHAHAHAHAHAHA” all over his IG stories which, I know, is the kind of petty energy we love when we’re gossiping about celebrities but also, dude, be careful. People barely know your name, there’s a huge power differential here. (Cosmopolitan)

Our newsletter this week at our Substack, The Squawk, is about pop culture’s current relationship with sex. And how little of it there is on our screens. Sarah explores why the, um, burgeoning and horny content that millennials and older grew up with is not what’s available these days to teens and young adults. As usual with our community, a really interesting discussion has come out of Sarah’s piece in the comments. Which you can read and our participate in as a subscriber. Join us! (The Squawk)
