Following their CinemaCon presentation earlier this week, DC Studios dropped their Superman featurette. It’s heavy on Krypto, showing the scene where he takes Superman “home” to the Fortress of Solitude.
There is also a promising bit of kissing between Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
Superman doesn’t work without Lois, and one key ingredient to making Clark/Superman compelling on screen is his relationship with Lois. That’s why Superman & Lois was so good, the relationship between Clark and Lois, settled and raising teenagers, was grounded in real emotion and believable family dynamics. Superman is going to need some of that juice to work, too.
Before this week I wasn’t worried about it but now I am—is David Corenswet a nonentity? He wasn’t exactly compelling at CinemaCon, and they’re leaning SO HARD on the dog to sell the movie, I am starting to grow concerned. Why don’t they trust Superman to sell Superman?
I am not, however, worried about Rachel Brosnahan. I think she’s got the makings of a great Lois Lane, and she’s already fronted a hit streaming series, so she’s not unfamiliar with pressure, expectations, and grueling press tours. Speaking of, she’s having a big week, attending CinemaCon for her superhero movie and promoting The Amateur, which opens next weekend. Certainly, starring as Lois Lane is a big deal, but Mrs. Maisel was a big deal, too, and she’s worked steadily between these two high-profile gigs. For Rachel Brosnahan, it’s been a steady rise, and she looks ready to meet her moment.
Here's Rachel making promotional rounds in New York yesterday.
