Maria mentioned Reese Witherspoon in Celebrity Social Media a couple of days ago, noting that “Reese Witherspoon is so good at her job. What A-lister can get divorced and move past it so quickly. I barely remember and I wrote about it.”
Reese hasn’t skipped a beat on the job since announced her separation from Jim Toth around three weeks ago. Last night she was back on the job, and on the red carpet, at the premiere of Apple’s new series The Last Thing He Told Me, produced through Hello Sunshine, and starring her friend Jennifer Garner. It’s Reese’s first carpet since the divorce news. But word is she and Jim had been over for a while which probably explains why the handling of their divorce has been relatively swift and clean so far.
But looking back the last three or four months, I wonder if we missed the fashion signs. Because she’s served a post-divorce glow-up before. Back in 2007, just three months after announcing that she and Ryan Phillippe were ending their marriage, Reese showed up to the Golden Globes like this:
I know that now, in these times, with fashion where it is, that dress might seem like much. But in that era, in the context of what had just happened in her personal life, it was a moment. So going back to earlier this year, when she was at the premiere of Your Place or Mine, I do remember thinking like, oh, this is kinda the most interesting thing she’s worn in a while:
I’m not saying this is an exciting look, worth of the Outfit of the Week, but there’s a certain… energy about it, non?
And then again at the Daisy Jones premiere a few weeks later. Reese in a strapless body-con dress, also with that energy:
Which brings us to last night. I repeat, this is not a slay by slay standards, what I’m talking about here is the energy. The glow-up energy. Can you feel it?
